چکیده

The cochlear implant (CI) as a treatment option for single-sided deafness (SSD) started with clinical study looking in to the influence of implantation MED-EL device on incapacitating unilateral tinnitus SSD. began 2003 and was conducted by P. Van de Heyning his team Antwerp, Belgium. first CI SSD without Germany implanted J. Mueller R. Jacob Koblenz 2005. Translational research activities took place since then evaluate not only adults but also children. They assessed hearing performance patients CI, importance long electrode arrays patients, degree acceptance children, early children developing language skills, music enjoyment two ears evidence spiral ganglion cell body distribution. In 2013, manufacturer receive CE mark indication asymmetric loss (AHL) 2019, get its approved over age five AHL, FDA USA. This article covers milestones translational from concept widespread use

Cochlear implantation for single-sided deafness: A multicenter study.

OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS To report the preliminary outcomes of patients with single-sided deafness and asymmetric hearing loss undergoing cochlear implantation at two centers. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective review and prospective data collection. METHODS Patients with single-sided deafness who underwent cochlear implantation at two centers were included. Pre- and postoperative measures included mo...

Tinnitus Suppression by Intracochlear Electrical Stimulation in Single Sided Deafness – A Prospective Clinical Trial: Follow-Up

INTRODUCTION Earlier studies show that a Cochlear Implant (CI), capable of providing intracochlear electrical stimulation independent of environmental sounds, appears to suppress tinnitus at least for minutes. The current main objective is to compare the long-term suppressive effects of looped (i.e. repeated) electrical stimulation (without environmental sound perception) with the standard stim...

Temporal Cortical Plasticity in Single-Sided Deafness: A Functional Imaging Study.

HYPOTHESIS To refine and extend the knowledge on cortical plasticity in single-sided deafness (SSD) by assessing magnetoencephalographic imaging in a well-defined group of subjects. BACKGROUND SSD causes difficulties with directional hearing, signal extraction in noise, and multispeaker identification and separation. In SSD, the ipsilateral auditory cortex is never powerfully driven by sound,...

Neural substrates predicting improvement of tinnitus after cochlear implantation in patients with single-sided deafness.

Notwithstanding successful reduction of tinnitus after cochlear implantation (CI) in patients with single-sided deafness (SSD) in recent studies, neither the exact mechanism of suppression nor the predictors of the amount of improvement are fully understood yet. We collected quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG) data from nine SSD patients who underwent CI for tinnitus management. By corre...

A Quantitative Electroencephalography Study on Cochlear Implant-Induced Cortical Changes in Single-Sided Deafness with Tinnitus

The mechanism of tinnitus suppression after cochlear implantation (CI) in single-sided deafness (SSD) is not fully understood. In this regard, by comparing pre- and post-CI quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG), we explored cortical changes relevant to tinnitus improvement. In SSD patients who underwent CI, qEEG data were collected: (1) before CI, (2) 6 months post-operatively with CI-on, ...
